OHMYGOSSIP — Tia Mowry is always “affirming” her children to make them feel good about their natural hair.
The former ‘Sister, Sister’ star used to get bullied for the texture of her hair at school, and she is making sure to empower Cairo, five, and Cree, 12 – who she has with her ex-husband Cory Hardrict – to make sure they know they are beautiful as they are.
She told Us Weekly magazine: “I’m constantly affirming my children.
“I was just telling Cree how awesome and beautiful his hair is, and the same goes for Cairo.
“I always say, ‘Why are you so cute? Why are you so beautiful?’
“I just think it’s really important for them to hear those things.”
The 45-year-old actress and her identical twin sister, Tamera – who starred together in the hit sitcom – started straightening their hair in their teens because they were made to feel insecure about their natural tresses at auditions.
Tia has since launched her own natural haircare line, 4U by Tia, which “puts curls first”, because she felt there was a “void” in the market for diverse products, and even uses it on her children’s hair.
Tia also revealed that her ‘The Game’ co-star Tracee Ellis Ross, 51, made her feel more confident about her hair when they met.
She said: “Her words of encouragement left a nice impact on me.”
